Shivanasamudra Falls in Mysore (celebrated across India as the Niagara of Karnataka, one of South Asia's most spectacular, powerful, and grand twin waterfall systems, where the holy Kaveri River splits around the rocky island of Shivanasamudra before plunging 98 meters in two thunderous cascades known as Gaganachukki and Bharachukki), located along the Mandya Chamarajanagar border near Mysore in Karnataka, stands as a prime natural and hydroelectric wonder.

Gaganachukki vs Bharachukki: The Twin Kaveri Plunges

Gaganachukki (Western Cascade): Plunges 98 meters (320 feet) through a sheer rock chasm with immense hydraulic force; best viewed from the Hazrath Mardane Gaib Dargah and watchtower.

Bharachukki (Eastern Cascade): Located 12 km downstream, it drops in a wide, tiered fan formation where tourists can walk down paved steps to view the swirling mist at water level.

1902 Asia's 1st Hydroelectric Plant & Heritage Engineering

Engineered with turbines imported from General Electric (USA) and Escher Wyss (Switzerland), the 1902 plant was an extraordinary technological triumph of royal Mysore.

The power station is still operational and generates clean hydroelectricity for the state grid under the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation.
