Thanneermukkom is the name of the barrier constructed here to prevent tidal action and intrusion of salt water into the Kuttanad lowlands across Vembanad Lake, between Thanneermukkom and Vechur. The water in this part of the lake is the cleanest. KTDC, Suvasam is easily accessible from Kochi and Alappuzha (1 hour) and is located very close to Kumarakom.
