Koteshwar Mahadev and Dhari Devi are famous Hindu shrines at Rudraprayag that is visited by the tourists and pilgrims alike.

Package Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun - Rudraprayag

Pick-up from Dehradun Railway Station as per your flights time or Airport, drive to Rudraprayag. check in at hotel & relax, evening free for individual activities. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 02: Rudraprayag Local Sightseeing

Have your breakfast at the hotel. Visit to Rudraprayag Local Sightseens, Koteshwar Mahadev Temple is a sacred place and temple of Lord Shiva on the holy bank of Alaknanda river. On the banks of Alaknanda river, the holy temple of Goddess Dhari Devi is located between Srinagar on Rudraprayag Road. Augustmuni is a small town in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 03: Rudraprayag - Dehradun

After early breakfast, drive back to Dehradun. On arrive Dehradun, transfer to Railway Station or Airport.

How to reach Rudraprayag

By Air:

Jolly Grant Airport (Airport Code: DED Dehradun - 155 km southwest) operates daily flights to New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad. Taxis and private hill cabs are available at the airport arrivals to reach Rudraprayag in 4.5 to 5 hours via Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Srinagar along the NH-07 Char Dham highway.

By Train:

Rudraprayag is served by key railway heads in Uttarakhand:

Rishikesh / Yog Nagari Rishikesh (Station Code: YNRK / RKSH - 140 km):** Major terminus connected by express trains from Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

Haridwar Junction (Station Code: HW - 165 km):** National railway junction with regular Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi, and Vande Bharat trains.

The upcoming *Rishikesh Karanprayag Railway Line* will provide direct rail access with dedicated stations along the Alaknanda valley corridor.

By Road:

From Delhi (~375 km / 7.5 to 8.5 hours):** Via Delhi Meerut Expressway, Roorkee, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Srinagar (NH-07).

From Rishikesh (~140 km / 4 hours):** Smooth 4-lane Char Dham Highway (NH-07).

From Kedarnath Route (Gaurikund ~75 km / 3 hours):** Via NH-107 through Guptkashi, Tilwara, and Augustmuni.

From Badrinath Route (~160 km / 5.5 hours):** Via NH-07 through Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag, Chamoli, and Joshimath.

Regular UTC and GMOU state transport buses depart round the clock from Rishikesh ISBT and Haridwar.

Local Transport:

Shared jeeps, mountain taxis, and private rental cars operate continuously across Rudraprayag, connecting Augustmuni, Ukhimath, Chopta, Guptkashi, and Karnaprayag.

1. Rudraprayag Sangam & Sacred Confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers

The holy confluence where the swift, clear green waters of the Mandakini River (flowing from Kedarnath) merge into the Alaknanda River (flowing from Badrinath). Believed to be the sacred spot where Sage Narada meditated on a rock to receive musical blessings from Lord Shiva, the Sangam features stone bathing ghats, evening river aartis, and the ancient *Rudranath Temple* at the water's edge.

2. Koteshwar Mahadev Temple & Ancient Riverside Cave Sanctum (Alaknanda Bank)

Located 3 km from Rudraprayag on the banks of the Alaknanda River, Koteshwar Mahadev is a natural cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to Hindu legends, Lord Shiva stayed and meditated in these caves while evading the demon Bhasmasura before proceeding to Kedarnath. The cavern walls feature naturally formed dripstone Shiva lingams, with clear mountain waters flowing directly beneath the rock shrine.

3. Chopta, Tungnath Temple & Chandrashila Peak Trek (Mini Switzerland of India)

Situated at an altitude of 2,680 meters in Rudraprayag district (65 km from town), Chopta is celebrated as the *Mini Switzerland of India*. Surrounded by dense rhododendron and deodar forests, Chopta serves as the base for the scenic 3.5 km trek to Tungnath (the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680 m) and a further 1.5 km climb to **Chandrashila Peak** (4,000 m), offering 360 degree views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba.

4. Deoria Tal High Altitude Alpine Lake & Chaukhamba Peak Reflections (Sari Village)

Located at an elevation of 2,438 meters near Sari village (55 km from Rudraprayag), this pristine mountain lake is renowned for mirror reflections of the snow capped Chaukhamba massif in its crystal waters. A gentle 2.5 km uphill trek through rhododendron and oak woods leads to lakeside camping grounds and birdwatching trails.

Situated 18 km from Rudraprayag on the banks of the Mandakini River, this peaceful town is dedicated to Sage Agastya, who is said to have meditated here. The town features the historic *Agasteshwar Mahadev Temple* with intricate stone carvings and operates a major helipad for helicopter passenger shuttles to Kedarnath Dham.

Dedicated to Lord Kartikeya (elder son of Lord Shiva), this shrine stands on a narrow mountain ridge 3,050 meters above sea level near Kanokhal (38 km from Rudraprayag), reached via a 3 km ridge trek offering views of over 100 snow clad peaks.
