Tandur is a town in the Vikarabad district of the Indian State of Telangana. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Tandur Mandal in Tandur Revenue Division. Tandur had great history during pre Nizams.It has been said that the Nizams of Hyderabad used to visit Tandur for Hunting purposes. There was a Business giant Yusuf seth who used to arrange the grand welcome to the Rulers of hyderabad.The rich vegetation and varied wildlife of those days was the prime reason. But now deforestation on high scale has denuded the area of wildlife.They used to travel from Golconda to Tandur via Vikarabad which tooks 15 days of Journey.Stone slabs were produced in those days even & majority of the stones slabs were exported to other parts of India.The Unique old houses are the living proof of peoples creativity.The old houses of Tandur city were built of Mud walls and Stones slabs on wooden supports.The history of the Tandur town was flourishing & prospering. Like in any developing town, the old and new areas are clearly discernible. The old houses area is called old Tandur and new localities form part of new Tandur. The railway track divides old and new Tandur.
