Sindhanur is a town and a major taluka in Raichur District, Karnataka, India. It belongs to Gulbarga Division. It is located 91 KM towards west from District head quarters Raichur. 380 KM from State capital Bangalore towards South. The recorded history of the district is traced as far as the third century BC. The fact that three minor rock edicts of Ashoka are found in this district, one at Maski in the Lingasugur Taluka and the other two near Sindhanur prove that this area was included in the dominion of great Mouryan King Ashoka.



The town was ruled by the name this king. After that the town was called as Sindhanur. In and around the Sindhanur town some of the following famous temples exist. Ambadevi temple at Somalapur village. Murari temple at Mukkunda village. Somanatha temple at Pura village. This belongs to Kushtagi taluka. Lakshmi Narayana and Nagareshwara temple at Balaganur. Uliyameshwara temple at Devaragudi. Kalleshwara Temple at Mallikarjuna temple at Jaalihaal etc.
