Nanning — Travel Guide
Nanning is the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. It is known as the "Green City" because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage. It has the most prosperous economy in Southwest China, supplying an abundance of agricultural products to the whole Guangxi. Bordering Vietnam, this city is neighbor to Guangzhou, close to Hong Kong and Macau, and faces Southeast Asia. This advantageous location makes the city a commercial and communication center, opening China to Southeast Asia. Nanning, an ancient city with a long history and rich culture, was part of Baiyue ethic groups in the ancient time. In the first year of Daxing period of Eastern Jin Dynasty (318 AD), Jinxing County, established here as one of the county towns, ushered a history of 1700 years of Nanning organizational system. During the Zhenguan period of Tang dynasty (632 AD), it was renamed Yong state and established Yong government seat, which is why it has been called Yong for short.
