Hechi is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China, bordering Guizhou to the north. This city is located in the northwest region of Guangxi, neighboring Nanning in the south, Liuzhou in the east and Baise in the west. It is also bordered by Guizhou Province in the north. Before the Qin Dynasty (221-206) brought it into the domain of Guilin Shire and Qianzhong Shire, Hechi was inhabited by many ethnic groups in Southwest China. During the early 1960s, it belonged partly to Liuzhou, Baise and Nanning special zones. Hechi Special Zone was then set up in 1965, and it was promoted to a regional city by year 2002.
