Raipur is the capital city of Chhattisgarh and the administrative headquarters of Raipur District. Formerly, Raipur was a part of Madhya Pradesh before the Chhattisgarh state was formed on 1st November 2000. The Raipur city is sometimes referred as the "Rice Bowl of India" as varieties of rice is grown here. The River Mahanadi flows to the south east of the city of Raipur. The south side has dense forests and in north the land rises and merges with the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The Maikal Hills are situated in the north-west. Located centrally in Chhattisgarh, the traditional city has evolved has become an important regional industrial and commercial destination.the Raipur city has fascinated people from different parts of Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states.
