Chaohu — Travel Guide
Chaohu was formerly a prefecture-level city and is now a county-level city in central Anhui province, People's Republic of China. Embracing the Lake Chao, from which the city was named, Chaohu borders the provincial capital of Hefei to the northwest, Lu'an to the west, Anqing to the southwest, Tongling to the south, Wuhu to the southeast, and Ma'anshan and the province of Jiangsu to the east. Its history as a county can be traced back to the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC). In the following years, this land of fish and rice left behind a number of historical sites ranging from the Paleolithic Age to old battlefield and ancient buildings. After the establishment of the PRC, Chaohu Special Administrative Area was established in 1949 and the Chaohu City was established in 1982. that Chaohu was split into three parts and was absorbed by neighboring cities. Juchao District was renamed to Chaohu as a county-level city under Hefei's administration.
