Mahe, is a small town at the mouth of the Mahe River and is surrounded on all sides by the State of Kerala. The Kannur District surrounds Mahe on three sides and Kozhikode District from one side. Mahe is a town that is located in the Union Territory of Pondicherry in South India. Covering an area of just 9 square kilometers, Mahe is surrounded by Kerala on three sides and thus sees a lot of influence from that state in its language and cuisine. Formerly a part of Kerala, it is today a Union Territory. The picturesque little town with a French flavour, originally called Mayyazhi, was renamed Mahe, after the Frenchman who captured it. The St. Teresa's Church is famed all over Malabar for the efficacy of prayers said here.
