The small town of Lachung sits at an elevation of 3000m (from the sea level) and at the meeting point of two major tributaries Lachen river and Lachung river of river Teesta in the northeast part of Sikkim. It is not so far from the land of monasteries, Gangtok. Our Lachung tour package will take you straight up to some of the frozen peaks of Shivalik Hills and on the other hand you will get the chance to look closely at the lives of common people and their beliefs in Buddhism. We understand all your excitement and desperation to explore more and more and so our package is designed in such a way that it will cover all the places which will make your trip Lachung unforgettable.

The town is located at the footsteps of Tibet. It consists of many of the highest peaks of the Himalayas and sparkling streams. The snow covered mountains will steal your heart. The town is famous for its magnificent landscapes and serene beauty. The view of Lachung river flowing in between the mountains in its purest form will leave you mesmerized. The rich culture and strong traditional values will make you feel fond of this town. The place offers some of the most delicious fruits like apples, apricots and peaches. The hand woven blankets and sweaters of Lachung will definitely make a place in your shopping bag. The local market is full of attractive and useful things like traditional flower vases, handmade carpets and many Buddhist relics. You can have access to very rare medicinal herbs and different ancient therapies .

Package Itinerary

Day 01: NJP Rly Station / IXB Airport – Gangtok (125 kms / 4 hrs)
Meet & Greet on arrival at NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport & transfer to Gangtok (5,480 ft.). On arrival Check-in to hotel & rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 02: Excursion to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir
After breakfast start for an excursion Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft.) & Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.) Which is 55 kms one way from Gangtok city. Overnight stay at Gangtok.
(In case of Land slide or any other reason Tsomgo Lake is closed we will provided alternate sightseeing.)

Day 03: Gangtok – Lachen (122 kms / 6 hrs)
After breakfast pick up from hotel & transfer to Lachen (9,800 ft.). Enroute visit Singhik View point, Seven Sister Water Fall, Naga Water Fall, and arrive Lachen by evening. Dinner at hotel. Overnight stay at Lachen.

Day 04: Lachen – Chopta Valley – Gurudongmar Lake – Lachung
Early Morning drive to Chopta Valley (13,200 ft.) & Gurudongmar Lake (17,100 ft.). Back to hotel & after lunch transfer to Lachung (8,800 ft). Arrive Lachung by evening. Dinner at hotel. Overnight stay at Lachung.

Day 05: Lachung – Yumthang Valley Excursion
After breakfast proceed to Yumthang Valley (11,800 ft. Known as Valley of Flowers). On the way back, visit Hot Spring considered to have medicinal properties. Back to resort. Overnight stay at Lachung.

Day 06: Lachung – Gangtok (116 kms / 6 hrs)
After breakfast departure for Gangtok, enroute witness the wonderful Bheema & Twin water falls. On arrival at Gangtok Check-in to your hotel. Overnight stay at Gangtok.

Day 07: Gangtok – NJP Rly Station / IXB airport (125 kms / 4 hrs) 
After breakfast Check-out from hotel and take the departure transfers to NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport for your onward journey.

    •     Any increase in taxes or fuel price, leading to increase in cost on surface transportation & land arrangements, which may come into effect prior to departure.

  • Minimum Cancilation charges before 10days of Travel Date is 10% of package cost

How to reach Lachung

By Road from Gangtok (Primary Access Route):

  • From Gangtok (~118 km / 6 to 7 hours): Accessible exclusively via 4x4 tourist vehicles (Mahindra Scorpio, Bolero, Tata Sumo) operated by registered Sikkim travel agencies. The route proceeds along the scenic North Sikkim Highway passing through Phodong, Mangan, Tung, and Chungthang confluence before ascending to Lachung.

By Train & Air via Siliguri / Bagdogra Hub:

  • Bagdogra International Airport (Airport Code: IXB - 240 km south): Major airport with daily flights from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Drive to Gangtok (4.5 hours), then proceed on next morning to Lachung.
  • New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (Station Code: NJP - 235 km south): Major broad gauge railway terminus connected across India.
  • Note: North Sikkim requires a mandatory Protected Area Permit (PAP). Ensure 2 passport photos and valid photo ID (Voter ID/Passport/Aadhaar) are submitted in Gangtok 1 day prior.

Places to Visit In Lachung

Lachung features rhododendron valleys, extreme high-altitude snow points, 19th-century Buddhist gompas, and waterfalls:

1. Yumthang Valley & Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary (Valley of Flowers at 3,564m - 25 km)

A breathtaking glacial valley situated at an elevation of 3,564 meters, famously known as the Valley of Flowers of Sikkim. From late March to June, the valley and its 43 square kilometer Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary burst into a vibrant carpet of over 24 native rhododendron species, alpine primulas, and gentians surrounded by grazing yaks and snow peaks.

2. Zero Point / Yumesamdong (Perpetual Snow Frontier at 15,300 Feet - 50 km)

Perched at a dizzying altitude of 4,663 meters (15,300 ft), Zero Point is the northernmost motorable outpost in North Sikkim where civilian roads end near the international border. A pristine realm of eternal snow surrounded by the confluence of three glacial rivers, offering panoramic mountain views and snow adventures even in peak summer.

3. Lachung Monastery / Samten Cheoling Gompa (1880 Nyingma Buddhist Monastery)

An ancient Buddhist monastery established in 1880 belonging to the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism, perched peacefully on a hillside across the Lachung Chu river. Surrounded by picturesque apple orchards, the gompa houses ancient murals, prayer wheels, and hosts sacred winter Cham mask dances.

4. Bhim Nala Waterfall / Amitabh Bachchan Falls (Magnificent 3-Tier Mountain Cascade - 13 km)

A towering, thunderous three tiered mountain waterfall located along the Chungthang Lachung road. Locally nicknamed the Amitabh Bachchan Falls because of its extraordinary height, the cascade plunges down steep vertical rock faces with wooden footbridges providing close viewing.

5. Mount Katao Alpine Snow Ridge / Mini Switzerland of Sikkim (3,970m Peak - 28 km)

A pristine offbeat mountain peak located 28 km from Lachung near the international border. Known as the Mini Switzerland of Sikkim, Katao features towering snow covered slopes, pine forests, and opportunities for snowboarding and snow tubing (requires army permit).

6. Yumthang Natural Hot Springs & Pedestrian Suspension Bridge (Therapeutic Sulfur Pools)

Located near Yumthang Valley across a pedestrian suspension bridge over the river, these natural thermal sulfur hot springs are enclosed in dedicated stone bath huts where warm mineral rich waters are believed to cure skin and joint ailments.

7. Naga Waterfall & Chungthang Confluence (Confluence of Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu)

A picturesque multi level waterfall cascading down cliff rocks into the valley near Chungthang, where the Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu rivers merge to form the mighty Teesta River.

8. Lachung Village Organic Apple Orchards & Traditional Dzumsa Tribal Assembly

A charming highland village famous for traditional wooden cottages, stone fences, blooming peach and apple orchards, and the unique indigenous democratic Dzumsa administrative court headed by the Pipon chieftain.

9. Phuni Snow Ski Point & Winter Alpine Valley (Seasonal Snow Glades)

A designated winter snow point located 12 km from Lachung on the route to Yumthang, where gentle snow covered alpine slopes provide ideal conditions for sledging and skiing.
