Houma is a city in the Shanxi province of the People's Republic of China, on the Fen River - the tributary of Yellow River, south of Linfen. Houma, also known as Xintian in ancient time, was the capital of the state of Jin from 585 BC to 376 BC. Ancient bronzeware workshops have been found here. Enormous numbers of historical relics have been excavated here. Houma was named Xintian in ancient time. Houma is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese culture with a history of more than 7,000 years. In BC585, the capital of Jin Dynasty moved to Xintian for its advantage terrain. The prosperous cultural of Jinguo left too much relics for Houma citiy. In 1961, Houma was listed as the National Cultural Heritage Conservation Board. After 1946, Houma was liberated and in 1971 it authorized as county-level city under the domination of Lifen.
