The etymology of the name as ascertained from the local residents points to its derivation from the name of the one Shahdolwa Ahir of Sohagpur village. The progenitor of the Ex-Illakadar family of Sohagpur, Jamni Bhan was the second son of Maharaja Virbhan Singh of Bagelkhand. He decided to settle at Sohagpur and assured maximum facilities to settler around, and also declared that places settled by clearing forests will be named after the pioneer settlers.

The word "Amarkantak" literally means "Holy voice of God". Two great river of India, the Narmada and the sun arise in the holy town of Amarkantak, in the north eastern region of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Chattisgarh. It is a famous hill station and pilgrimage destination in Central India. This town of Amarkantak with its innumerable temples, holy ponds, and the surrounding forests is a sought-after destination both with nature-lovers as well as the spirituality - inclined. In Hindu religion, it is called "Tirathraj" which means king of all pilgrimage. It is located a confluence of Satpura & Vindhyan ranges. As per hindu legends, Lord Shiva has blessed holy river Narmada with great purifying power here. Devotees from all over the country, takes one dip in Narmada river to purify themselves. Legend says that even river Ganges come to Narmada river, once in a year, to purify herself.

Package Itinerary

Day 01: Delhi - Shahdol
You will arrive at Delhi airport, where our representatives will receive you. From there, you will be taken to the railway station, to catch the train to Shahdol Railway station.

Day 02: Shahdol - Amarkantak
You will arrive in Shahdol in the evening and from there, take a bus to Amarkantak. After reaching there, you will check in the hotel room. You will stay overnight in the hotel room.

Day 03: Amarkantak Sightseeing
Today, you will leave hotel room soon after the breakfast. We will take you on a sightseeing tour, where you will see serpent-like road in green meadows, attractive in semblance. The famous Vindhya Range houses tribal people, whom you will interact with. The place is the origin place for rivers Sone and Narmada. You will comeback to our hotel room after the day's tour and stay overnight.

Day 04: Amarkantak - Dindori - Amarkantak
Even after the division of Madhya Pradesh, a good chunk of tribal people still live in Madhya Pradesh. Today you will go to Dindori, the place of tribal group called Gound. You will interact with these peaceful tribal and explore their way of life, their culture and language. In the evening, you will return to your hotel room for overnight stay.

Day 05: Amarkantak - Shahdol - Delhi
You will leave Amarkantak for Shahdol Railway station early in the morning, by bus. After reaching there, you will board the train to Delhi. The whole day and night you will be in the train.

Day 06: Departure from Delhi
You will arrive in Delhi and check in to the hotel room. Thereafter, you will go on a short tour of the city and visit Birla Mandir, Connaught Place, India Gate, Rajghat and Akshardham Mandir. Late in the evening, you will leave your hotel room for Delhi International airport.
