Panjin is a prefecture-level city and a major oil production centre of Liaoning province, People's Republic of China, and is situated on the northern coast of Liaodong Bay of the Bohai Gulf. It borders Anshan to the northeast and east, Yingkou across the Liao River, as well as Jinzhou to the west and northwest. Administrative history of the area can be traced back to 195BC during the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD). The Tang Dynasty (618AD-907AD) brought the region back from the Koguryo Kingdom to the regime of Central China. Panshan is the earliest county established in modern Panjin. Panjin is situated in the alluvial plain area. Its terrain slopes downward from the north to the south. The land of the city is flat. Paddy field makes up about eighty-five percent of the arable land.
